Longtime lawmaker Bob Ashley remembered at West Virginia Culture Center

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A celebration of life took place at the West Virginia Culture Center Monday to remember and honor longtime lawmaker Bob Ashley.

Ashley died last Wednesday at 70 years old. He was from Roane County and served in the West Virginia Legislature for 31 years as a delegate and was later appointed a senator. Most recently, Ashley served as the legislative liaison for Governor Jim Justice.

“It’s remarkable that a group this size today at this memorial service gathered in the midst of their busy days to honor and remember and celebrate the life of a great public servant who always put others above himself,” said Mitch Carmichael, Department of Economic Development Secretary.

Bob Ashley is survived by his wife, Circuit Court Judge Anita Ashley, and two sons and their families.

The visitation for Ashley will take place Tuesday at Roane County High School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the funeral taking place Wednesday.
